Playgrounds & Schools in Hell's Kitchen

Christine Quinn doesn’t seem to be impressing the folk at the Clinton Chronicle, but last I heard, she was the one who got the Hell’s Kitchen Park (corner 47th & 10th) done up for us. Not so bad – it’s absolutely full of happy kids these days. *

With all the building going on, though, I wonder what’s being done about making new schools for the new kids on the block we must be getting. Quite a few new tall apartment buildings around and all of them 80/20 buildings, so there must be some new families coming. I read somewhere recently that the city is trying to open 160 new schools without actually building any new ones but I haven’t noticed even any of these appearing in our ’hood.

*Is it true that before Hell’s Kitchen Park was ever made into a recreational park it was a carpark – and that when it was dug up it was discovered that it had been used as something of a graveyard for various murdered people over the years?
