Summer Reading

I was in New Zealand all summer and meant to write from there but… didn’t. Read some great books while away though, including “The Known World” by Edward P. Jones and “The Time Traveller’s Wife” by Audrey Niffenegger.

They were recommended to me a while ago so you may have read them already but if not, I highly recommend them both. The Known World is sobering, to say the least, in its meanderings in the world of humans enslaving one another; The Time Traveller’s Wife is just delightfully imaginative. There’ll be plenty of reviews around, so I won’t say more. Now I’m reading Claudia Orange’s “The Treaty of Waitangi” which gets to the nitty gritty of what went on before, during and after the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi (1840 – between the British crown and the Maori, who are the indigenous people of New Zealand/Aotearoa). Another read that abounds with complexities.

I hope some of you will share books you’ve read here. Share lots of things.

A couple of people emailed me over the summer – thinking about posting a blog but neither of them seems to have. Is it hard to figure out? In case it’s not clear, you just have to create an ID for yourself and then you’re up and running to write a post of your own or comment on someone else’s. The links to do all this will be to your right at any time.
