The Scene
This simple beer and sausage shop would be run of the mill on the streets of Munich but is a certified treasure in west midtown. This is especially true during the summer when the outstide tables seduce passersby with the promise of great beer and snacks. If there is one thing New York City lacks, it's a beer-garden culture, but Hallo Berlin goes a long way to fill the gap.
The Food
Few restaurants take their sausage as seriously-each kind is handmade daily , as is the rest of the traditional german fare on the affordably priced menu. If there were more places like this in the city, there would be less reason to summer anywhere else. The beer selection is not as large as those Upper West Side beer emporiums, but you can bet that not one of them serves the smoked beer (only in season) or some of the fairly obscure local German brews available at Hallo.
